Edward Weightman started business in 1915 with a truck and a load of lumber. By 1925, he had opened a lumber mill and building supply store on Main Street, Chippawa, which soon became "E. Weightman & Sons Building Supplies". Busy Edward was also a Reeve of Chippawa, a job his son Ed later occupied. Edward's son William served as a Chippawa Village councillor in addition to running the supply store.
The family lumber business grew, and eventually branched out into a ready mix concrete facility on Montrose Road. By 1984, grandsons Tom and Gary Weightman, too busy operating the concrete plant, sold the Main Street store, which became a Cash and Carry.
The concrete plant changed hands over the years, at one point becoming a Cashway Building Centre, and later Rona Cashway. Today (2018) the Main Street location houses a bakery, and a storage facility.
