The Buchner House, built in 1799, is a unique home surrounded by rich history of the founding of Niagara Falls and the fight for Canada. The home was built by Christopher Buchner, after purchasing the property from his father-in-law, James Forsyth. Forsyth was part of the the first ten families to settle into the Niagara Falls region and original owner of Drummond Hill. This is one of the oldest heritage properties in Niagara Falls, surviving the War of 1812, and the many decades since its construction. The home is located just steps infront of the Drummond Hill Cemetery, and in close proximity to Clifton Hill. The home was recognized in 1998 by the City of Niagara Falls for its heritage value.

The exterior of the home exhibits unique features, the architectural style varies throughout the structure from the different eras of construction. Originally the home was built in an Italianate style, later alterations were added such as the extended roof slope, enclosed porch, and elongated dormer. Different styled and sized windows also exampilfy various construction dates throughout the years.

From Toronto:

- Take Gardner Expressway (West)

- Merge onto the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), continue for about 31 km

- Merge onto 403 (West) , stay on for the next 21 km

- Take left curve onto the QEW (Niagara/East Hamilton/Fort Erie), continue for 69.5 km

- Exit on the left onto 420 (East)

- In 2.5 km take exit Drummond Road

- Turn left onto Frederic St.

- Turn right onto Drummond Road

- Turn left onto Buchner Pl. - Look for signs for Drummond Hill Cemetery

- Parking will be available at the end of the street, in front of the home and Drummond Hill Cemetery

From Fort Erie/ Buffalo:

- Take QEW towards Niagara Falls, continue for about 25 km

- Exit onto ON-420 (East) towards Niagara Falls, USA

- Exit at Drummond Road

- Turn left onto Frederica St.

- Take a right onto Drummond Road

- Turn left onto Buchner Pl. - Look for signs for Drummond Hill Cemetery

- Parking will be available at the end of the street, in front of the home and Drummond Hill Cemetery

The Buchner House really showcases the history and heritage of Niagara Falls because of its conection to the founding of the city and to the War of 1812.

Christopher Buchner moved to Niagara Falls from New Jersey. Buchner married James Forsyth's only daughter, Sarah. Through this marriage he was able to purchase property from Forsyth, who recieved a crown land grant of nearly 400 acres.

The Battle of Lundy's Lane was fought on July 25th, 1814 between the British and American forces. Americans attacked the British after their victory in the Battle of Chippewa. The Battle of Lundy's Lane lasted for only 6 hours, but proved to be one of the bloodiest battles of the war causing hundreds of casualities on both forces. The battle also marked the end of the American offence in Upper Canada. The Buchner Home was in central location to the battle. Christopher Buchner, acting as lieutenant in the 2nd Lincoln militia, and his son John Buchner, stood near their home during the first acts of the battle.
