This pub truly offers a real Irish experience. This is true even down to the location that the Irish Harp Pub is situated. This is due to the fact that in Ireland, most pubs originate as grocery shops, where they would eventually evolve into being able to focus on selling spirits. This correlates to the Irish Haro Pub, as in 1913 the town's local grocery store had been constructed in the very same location of where the the Irish Harp Pub sits today. Trevor Smyth was the founding owner of the pub and spent his childhood and young adult life living in Ireland. Due to this, it was important that the Irish harp pub resembled the pubs he grew up visiting in Ireland.
Trevor moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake from Ireland in 2005, and purchased a neglected building and dedicated his time into restoring it and transforming it into an Irish pub. The restoration of the building started in 2006, and took 14 months to complete. This is because Trevor insisted on shipping the majority of the contents of the pub from Ireland. Trevor has now since passed away, but his legacy has lived on, which can be seen as the Irish Harp pub is still seen jammed packed full of life where one can go for great food, music, and beer.
