JH x09 Blaises Imperial Hotel 121 Queens Gate Kensington SW7 2AP

This ultra-trendy basement club, which hosted The Experience on 21 December 1966, and the hotel that housed it are both now completely gone. Demolished in 1992, it remains a flattened building site, currently used for car parking, next to the church of St. Augustine of Canterbury . These rare shots from inside Blaises come from the 1967 horror film The Sorcerers. In the period photograph below left, it is just possible to see the edge of the Imperial Hotel next to St. Augustine's. In the recent photograph it has gone while the building to the right is clearly the same one, now painted white. Even the trees remain, albeit with quite a few more rings on their trunks. There is significantly more traffic today too! Finally, the shot above looks across the car park to the side of the church.
