Early travellers to Niagara Falls often stayed in rooms close to the cataracts. The Clifton Inn was an annex of the Clifton House Hotel, the first luxury hotel in the area. The original hotel burned down in 1898, but the Clifton Inn was still standing. In the early 1920s Howard Fox purchased it, expanded it and renamed it the Foxhead Inn. The Foxhead was one of Niagara Falls' premier hotels, attracting a number of notable guests over the course of its operation.
In 1959 the western end of the inn was converted into Tussaud's Wax Museum. Sheraton took over the business in 1966. The rest of the building was demolished and a new, 14-storey Foxhead was constructed on the site.
In 1999, the hotel underwent a complete renovation, both inside and out. Eight new floors were also added in 2000, expanding the Foxhead Inn to today's 22-storey Sheraton On The Falls Hotel.
