The Breckenridge-Hawley Estate, built in 1796, is located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and there have been several sightings and instances of paranormal activity. The first reported sighting dates back to the late 1800s when a previous owner, Major Charles Stanley, saw a lady in a long, grey dress disappear "like smoke". Mr. and Mrs. Hawley, who later took over ownership of the house in 1953, were unaware of the ghost at the time they purchased it, but they claim the lady in grey began to appear frequently. Visits from the lady in grey became so common that the couple got used to her presence and noises, and they named the apparition Elizabeth. The disturbances were not negative; in fact, it is said that the lady in grey actually seems to not go out of her way to bother people and it seems 'as though she was just checking to make sure everything's okay'. However, she has been known to be unwelcoming to unwanted visitors.

Elizabeth has been described as a women in her thirties wearing a long dress and a bonnet tied under her chin. The Hawley's let a psychic into their home to communicate with Elizabeth and the psychic uncovered that Elizabeth died in the 1800s after devoting her life taking care of her parents and refuses to leave the estate.

Another psychic, claims that there are other spirits in the house including a Civil War soldier who refuses to leave because it's his home.

The Hawley-Breckenridge Estate has a long past, but is still in great condition. It has recently changed owners and remains a private property. Please respect the owners and their privacy and remain off of their property.
